Beach hair, don’t care? A day at the beach is every day in Miami, and with so many picturesque spots to lay your towel, visitors can pick a different spot in front of the sparkling ocean each day of your vacation. One of the most striking swaths of beach can be found in the upscale village of Bal Harbour, bordered to the south by Surfside at 96th Street and to the north by the Haulover Inlet. Think clear, turquoise water, well-manicured sand, and since Bal Harbour is a small enclave, you’re assured a tranquil, private place to read a book and play in the surf, unbothered by large crowds. This is the spot of your beach dreams.

Beauty and the Beach

While all beaches are public, parking can be tricky in the Village (there is metered public parking located underneath the bridge connecting Bal Harbour to Haulover Beach), and there aren’t any facilities or lifeguard stands. It’s often best to enjoy the beach amenities from one of Bal Harbour’s three hotels that offer a front row seat to the Atlantic Ocean. You can start your perfect beach day early: Bal Harbour is one of the best places to watch the sunrise and it’s also home to a scenic beach path that extends all the way to neighboring Surfside. On the two-way path, you’ll pass a mix of locals and vacationers taking a leisurely stroll, biking or getting in their daily workout routine, and of course, you’ll have those gorgeous ocean views to motivate you to keep going. Another highlight of the area is a jetty that stretches into the ocean; here, you’ll watch boats and yachts motor out to sea, people fishing and pelicans diving for their next meal.

Paradise Found

Our advice for a day in paradise — check in to one of the three Bal Harbour oceanfront hotels. The The Ritz-Carlton has bragging rights to a dreamy corner location overlooking the glistening Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway, along with 750 feet of beachfront meant for sunning and frequent dips in the ocean. Spend the day on a beach bed, then splash around in the outdoor pool or reserve a luxury poolside cabana that comes with a personal concierge. The Five-Star The St. Regis offers the chance to spend all day in a posh oceanfront day villa decked out with Roche Bobois premium furnishings, or post up on a lounger or day bed on the 1,000-foot white sand beach. Expect to be treated like royalty by the staff who will indulge guests in foot reflexology, smoothie tastings, sunscreen spritzing and more. At the laidback beachside oasis Sea View guests are treated to two beachside loungers and one umbrella per room. When you’re done with the beach, float in the Olympic-size pool or retreat to Key West-style cabanas that are tricked out with ceiling fans, mini-refrigerators, a walk-in closet and bathroom. Grab a tropical drink from the patio bar and watch the waves roll in and out.

One Last Tip

If you’re looking for more beach action, take your towel to the sands of nearby Haulover Park Beach, where there’s watersports, a clothing-optional area, and a dog beach for your furry friend to frolic in the ocean. Neighboring Surfside is also a quintessential beach destination that’s quiet and family-friendly, and never overcrowded due to being a small community. You get to pick your beach style.
