Role Description
The Director of Event Services proactively oversees and manages the daily operations of the Events Services and Set-Up Department. This leadership role provides direction to the Banquet and Convention Services teams and works closely with the James L. Knight Center to ensure seamless event execution and consistently positive guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, empower, and motivate the Banquet management team, servers, and housepersons to deliver exceptional service and high engagement.
- Partner with Food and Beverage, Culinary, Stewarding, and Events teams to coordinate accurate and timely event execution.
- Review Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) in detail to ensure all meetings and functions meet Hyatt corporate standards.
- Develop innovative and creative décor concepts for banquet function spaces and special holiday events.
- Manage administrative duties including payroll, forecasting, inventory control, and food and beverage budgeting.
- Conduct daily walk-throughs of function spaces and storerooms to ensure compliance with Department of Health regulations.
- Proactively assess and plan staffing and equipment needs for upcoming events.
- Foster an environment of high service quality through effective hiring, training, and ongoing development.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of Hotel experience with a thorough understanding of all levels of banquet service.
- Demonstrated leadership strengths, including an entrepreneurial mindset and strong training/development skills.
- Highly creative, innovative, detail-oriented, and organized.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in general computer applications.
- Complete schedule flexibility required, including weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.
- A genuine desire to understand and anticipate the needs of others in a fast-paced environment.
