Three Avery Fisher Career Grant recipients unite for an evening showcasing both classical masterpieces and contemporary compositions.
Alexander Fiterstein with Nokothula Ngwenyama & Michael Stephen Brown takes place Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Knight Center for Music Innovation. The program features works by Mozart and Bruch, alongside original compositions by the performers themselves.
Fiterstein, a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant and first prize winner of the Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition, is acclaimed for his warm tone and expressive performances. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras worldwide and is a dedicated chamber musician.
Nokuthula Ngwenyama, winner of the Primrose International Viola Competition and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, is recognized for her multifaceted artistry as both violist and composer. Her compositions have been performed by leading ensembles across North America, Africa and Asia.
Michael Stephen Brown, hailed by The New York Times as “one of the leading figures in the current renaissance of performer-composers,” is a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award. He performs regularly with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and has premiered his own compositions internationally.
This performance takes place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 and is presented by Friends of Chamber Music of Miami in collaboration with the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
