An Evening with Arturo Rodríguez
Sep 03, 2026
Starting: 6:00 PM
Cuban American artist Arturo Rodríguez reflects on memory, exile and identity in a conversation at the University of Miami’s Otto G. Richter Library. The program takes place Thursday, September 3 at the Roberto C. Goizueta Pavilion and centers on Rodríguez’s forthcoming monograph, Arturo Rodríguez. Presented by University of Miami Libraries, the evening features Rodríguez in conversation with art historians Alejandro Anreus and Bruce Weber.
The publication is the first devoted exclusively to Rodríguez’s career, surveying nearly five decades of artistic practice. A self-taught Miami-based artist, Rodríguez is known for psychologically charged figurative paintings that explore family, memory, exile and the cultural landscape of Miami. His work is held in the collections of institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Lowe Art Museum.
The discussion will address the making of the monograph while considering Rodríguez’s long engagement with belonging, Cuban American experience and the narratives that shape personal and collective memory.
