An Evening with Eddie S. Glaude Jr.
Jun 08, 2026
Starting: 7:00 PM
A discussion on American history and identity through the lens of its milestone anniversaries brings author and scholar Eddie S. Glaude Jr. to Coral Gables Congregational Church. Taking place Monday, June 8, the event marks the release of his book America, U.S.A.: How Race Shadows the Nation’s Anniversaries, arriving in the lead-up to the United States’ 250th anniversary.
Presented by Books & Books, the evening centers on Glaude’s examination of how national celebrations have reflected and obscured the country’s ongoing tensions around race, democracy and collective memory. The conversation draws from a range of historical voices and literary figures, offering a layered perspective on how narratives of freedom and identity have evolved over time.
Glaude is a Princeton University professor of African American Studies and a prominent public intellectual whose work explores the complexities of the American experience. His previous books include Begin Again, a New York Times bestseller reflecting on James Baldwin’s insights, and Democracy in Black, which examines the enduring impact of race on U.S. political life.
