An Evening with Philip Smith

Discover five decades of symbolic storytelling through the lens of contemporary art during an evening with Philip Smith in conversation with Chana Sheldon, Executive Director of MoCA North Miami, at Books & Books in Coral Gables.

Held on Wednesday, August 27, the event celebrates Philip Smith: Magnetic Fields, the definitive catalog accompanying MoCA’s recent survey of Smith’s work. Known for his distinctive pictographic style, Smith weaves together elements of magic, metaphysics, Cold War iconography and natural science to create deeply layered visual narratives. The conversation will explore the evolution of his artistic language, as well as the ideas behind the catalog’s essays and archival material.
