From: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor discusses her latest children’s book, Just Shine!: How to Be a Better You, during a special event at the University of Miami’s Shalala Student Center.
An Evening with Sonia Sotomayor takes place Friday, September 19 from 6 to 8 p.m., presented by Books & Books and the University of Miami. Inspired by her mother’s gift for helping others recognize their inner light, Just Shine!, illustrated by Jacqueline Alcántara, encourages young readers to embrace their individuality and uplift those around them.
Tickets are $10 per person, with the option to include a copy of Just Shine! or its Spanish edition ¡Solo brilla! at checkout. A book is required to enter the signing line. All of Sotomayor’s titles will be available for purchase on site; pre-purchased books will be distributed at entry.
Born in the Bronx, Sotomayor became the first Latina to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court in 2009. She is a graduate of Princeton University and Yale Law School, and has served at multiple levels of the federal judiciary. Her books, including My Beloved World, Just Ask! and Just Help!, often draw on her personal story to inspire readers of all ages.
