Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration
Jan 16, 2026
Starting: 8:00 AM
A long-standing campus tradition honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through reflection, dialogue and community gathering.
The 35th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration takes place Friday, January 16 at Florida International University’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus. One of FIU’s largest annual events, the commemorative breakfast brings students, faculty and the broader community together to mark Dr. King’s enduring impact on civil rights and social justice.
This year’s program features guest speaker Kevin Powell, a writer, poet and activist whose work spans politics, culture and hip-hop. A GRAMMY-nominated spoken word artist and nationally recognized public speaker, Powell has participated in and documented major democratic movements of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, sharing perspectives rooted in advocacy, leadership and civic engagement.
Proceeds from the event support the Martin Luther King Endowment, benefiting scholarships and FIU’s Youth Forum initiatives.
