Apotheosis: Frost Symphony Orchestra
Sep 20, 2025
Starting: 7:30 PM
A world premiere, a powerhouse concerto and a jubilant symphony open the Frost Symphony Orchestra’s 2025–2026 season at UM Gusman Concert Hall.
Presented as part of the Frost School of Music’s Signature Series, Apotheosis: Frost Symphony Orchestra features conductor Gerard Schwarz leading a dynamic program that begins with Chant, a new work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Bernard Rands. Commissioned in celebration of the Frost School’s centennial, this premiere marks the fifth of six commissioned works honoring the milestone.
Santiago Rodriguez, acclaimed pianist and Frost faculty member, takes the stage for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, a technically formidable work layered with sweeping emotion and lyrical depth. The evening concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A major, a rhythmic tour de force famously described by Wagner as the “apotheosis of the dance.”
Apotheosis: Frost Symphony Orchestra takes place Saturday, September 20.
