Arms Around America
Feb 20, 2025 - Feb 21, 2025
Starting: 8:00 PM
Personal narratives and documentary storytelling converge in an innovative radio-theater experience examining America's complex relationship with firearms. Arms Around America, created by award-winning artist Dan Froot, comes to the Lehman Theater at MDC North Campus for two evening performances on Thursday, February 20 and Friday, February 21.
The production, co-presented by Live Arts Miami and Miami Light Project, features four actors portraying multiple characters in a series of short plays based on real family experiences, including stories from South Florida. Fresh from its successful premiere at UCLA's Nimoy Theater, this theatrical broadcast format creates an intimate setting for exploring diverse perspectives on how guns influence American society, culture and identity.
Froot, a Research Professor at UCLA with over forty years of experience creating socially engaged theater, brings his expertise in blending artistic expression with community dialogue. The performance aims to foster nuanced discussions about gun violence while highlighting personal stories that reveal the broader social impact of firearms in contemporary America.
