Art as Legacy: Honoring 100 Years of Opa-Locka
Dec 05, 2025
From: 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
A morning program highlighting the role of art in interpreting local history brings Opa-locka’s approaching centennial into focus during Miami Art Week.
Art as Legacy: Honoring 100 Years of Opa-Locka takes place at the Historic Opa-locka Train Station and features a panel led by preservationist Alex Van Mecl. Local artists Ana Rodriguez, Stephanie Menjivar, Julia Charles and Destyni Swoope will discuss newly commissioned works created to honor the city’s 100-year legacy, along with the debut of Rodriguez’s Opa-locka Heritage Guide & Map. Together, the projects explore how visual storytelling helps preserve heritage, reflect community identity and connect residents and visitors to the city’s cultural landscape.
The program runs from 10 to 11 a.m. on December 5 and is presented by Ten North Group as part of the 13th Annual Art of Transformation events. Free parking is available, and the event is open to the public.
