Art Deco Sustainability Tour
Apr 24, 2026
From: 10:00 AM to Noon
An architecture-focused walking tour examines how historic design principles can inform contemporary sustainability practices in Miami Beach. Led by historian and Art Deco expert George Neary, the Art Deco Sustainability Tour takes place Friday, April 24, departing from The Wolfsonian–FIU. The program is part of the broader Earth Week Miami lineup, which highlights environmental awareness and action across the region.
The tour explores the defining features of Art Deco architecture—such as geometric forms, durable materials and climate-responsive design—while considering how these elements can be reinterpreted to address modern ecological challenges. Through guided discussion, participants gain insight into both the historical context of the style and its potential relevance in sustainable urban planning.
Presented as a free public program, the tour invites attendees to engage with Miami Beach’s built environment from an environmental perspective, connecting design heritage with current conversations around sustainability.
