Join the Ten North Group for Art of Transformation, a five-day event running December 4-8 at the Contemporary African Diaspora Art Center in Opa-locka, spotlighting African and African Diaspora art and literature.This year’s edition, Black Aliveness and an Aesthetics of Being, takes inspiration from Kevin Quashie's acclaimed book, Black Aliveness, or A Poetics of Being, and explores the intersection of African and African Diaspora literature with visual art. The program forms part of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Art of Black Miami and coincides with Art Basel Miami and Miami Art Week.
Through a series of exhibitions, performances, film screenings and discussions, Art of Transformation delves into the aesthetic and historical narratives of Black Aliveness. The featured exhibitions include:
- Embodiment of Aliveness: The Sculptures of Siriki Ky at the ARC, curated by E. H. Malick NDIAYE
- Aliveness and Livity at the Pavilion, curated by Phillip Thomas
- Preview of Ten North Arts Collection at the Historic Train Station (West), curated by Professor Yacouba Konate
- Tales of Opa-locka: A Heritage Journey at the Historic Train Station (East), curated by Alex Van Mecl
- Sahddi Khali Photography at the Historic Hurt Building, curated by Melissa Hunter
- The Garden of Humanity at the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Building Opa-locka Lot, curated by James Brazil
