Atizay: Haitian Art Weekend
May 23, 2025
From: 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Experience three evenings of art, music and movement that spotlight the creative voices of emerging Haitian artists with roots in Port-au-Prince. Taking place at Gato Gordo Gallery, this immersive event combines visual art, photography and live performances with opportunities for community participation—ranging from portrait sessions to dance lessons.
Atizay: Haitian Art Weekend runs May 23–25 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. each night, offering a different thematic program each day. On May 23, the event opens with a live fashion-inspired photoshoot showcasing casual, professional and traditional Haitian looks, followed by a chance for attendees to take part in a portrait session. May 24 features a screening of poetic short films and an open mic for spoken word performances. The final evening, May 25, blends live music with choreographed dance, including free dance lessons and an open floor for guests to join.
Visual art remains on display throughout the weekend, allowing visitors to explore the gallery’s offerings by day and engage with interactive programming at night. Held during Haitian Heritage Month, the event highlights the diversity and vitality of Haitian culture through a multidisciplinary lens.
