A pulse of garage-punk energy hits Wynwood this October as Nashville’s Be Your Own Pet returns with fierce riffs and fearless attitude.
The band performs Saturday, October 18, at Gramps Wynwood, with doors at 7 p.m. and music beginning at 8. Presented by Breakeven Booking, the 18+ show is $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
After a 14-year hiatus, Be Your Own Pet reunited in 2021 at the invitation of Jack White and reemerged with renewed force, releasing their third album Mommy in 2023 on Third Man Records. Fronted by Jemina Pearl, the group brings a garage-driven sound that fuses the raw intensity of their early work with more layered songwriting. Tracks like “Hand Grenade” and “Worship the Whip” channel themes of empowerment through a lens of biting energy and control.
Their self-titled debut and follow-up Get Awkward earned critical acclaim in the mid-2000s, and their recent return has rekindled interest in their rebellious, high-voltage style. With tour dates alongside The Linda Lindas and slots on major festival stages, the band continues to assert its place in the punk revival canon.
