Beach Activation: Ocean Mile Swim
Jun 06, 2026
From: 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM
A one-mile open-water swim invites confident swimmers to mark World Ocean Celebration with a morning challenge focused on ocean stewardship. Presented by Blue Scholars Initiative, the Ocean Mile Swim takes place Saturday, June 6 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at 81st Street Beach on Miami Beach. The free community event is part of the World Ocean Celebration lineup, with limited swim capacity and advance registration required.
Coach Erinne Guthrie of Full Circle Coaching will lead the swim, beginning with check-in, stretching and safety guidance before participants enter the water at 8 a.m. The activity is designed for experienced open-water swimmers who can complete a 1-mile distance; participants must be at least 12 years old, with minors accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Swimmers should bring goggles, a brightly colored swim cap, sun protection, reef-safe sunscreen and a reusable water bottle. The morning concludes with an optional reflection circle at 9 a.m. Weather and ocean conditions will be monitored, and the activity may be canceled if conditions are unsafe.
