A landmark work of the classical repertoire resounds in a large-scale performance at FIU.
Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9: Ode to Joy will be performed Saturday, April 11 at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts. The concert features the FIU Symphony Orchestra, FIU Choirs and Encantus Voices, with proceeds benefiting student scholarships at The Wertheim.
Conducted by Javier José Mendoza, the performance brings together the FIU Concert Choir under Erynn Millard, FIU University Singers under Alicia Romero-Sardiñas and Encantus Voices under Maibel Troia. Vocal soloists Laura León, soprano; Katherine Goeldner, mezzo-soprano; Carlos Silva, tenor; and Juantomás Martínez Yépez, baritone join the combined ensembles for Beethoven’s monumental choral finale.
Celebrated for its “Ode to Joy” movement and enduring message of unity and shared humanity, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony remains one of the most ambitious and influential works in orchestral music.
