Bill Baggs: Observe the Moon Night

Moon observation, astronomy, poetry, art and community activities come together along the shoreline at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park for an evening devoted to Earth’s closest celestial neighbor. Held Saturday, September 19 near Pavilion D-18, the free community gathering is part of International Observe the Moon Night, a worldwide program encouraging people to explore lunar science, observation and cultural connections to the moon.

Guest astronomers will lead stargazing using specialized equipment, with opportunities to view and photograph the night sky through astrophotography. The program also includes music, poetry, science and nature activities, five-minute moon stories, community partner displays, temporary moon tattoos and sunset viewing.

Presented by Friends of Cape Florida with support from Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, the Village of Key Biscayne and the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, the event is free with advance RSVP, though regular park admission applies. Food and frozen treats will be available for purchase, and guests are encouraged to bring a folding chair and reusable cup. The event takes place rain or shine.
