Black History Month Film Festival
Feb 24, 2026
From: 5:30 PM to 11:30 PM
An evening of documentary screenings and discussion highlights African American history through film, with a focus on stories often absent from traditional narratives.
The Black History Film Festival takes place on Tuesday, February 24 at the Liberty Square Community Center in Liberty City. Now in its second year in Miami, the festival is part of a national network dedicated to presenting films that explore Black history, culture and legacy through a documentary lens. The film lineup will be announced closer to the event.
Founded in Atlanta in 2008 by Marvin Arrington Jr., the Black History Film Festival has expanded over the years to cities including Washington D.C. and most recently Miami, with an emphasis on community-based venues and local engagement. Screenings typically center on the lives and contributions of unsung African American figures, connecting historical storytelling with contemporary audiences.
The Miami edition is presented as part of broader neighborhood revitalization efforts, situating the festival within Liberty City as a cultural gathering that combines film, education and community dialogue.
