Botanical Inks and Nature Journaling
Dec 07, 2025
From: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
A hands-on workshop introduces children to the colors, textures and stories found in South Florida’s native plants through art-making and play-based learning.
Botanical Inks and Nature Journaling at the Vizcaya Village Garage is led by multidisciplinary artist and instructor Gabriela Serra, whose practice spans filmmaking, photography and community facilitation. Her workshops often explore relationships between people, land and ancestral histories, and she brings this perspective to a session where children ages 5–12 learn simple techniques for creating natural inks from leaves, bark and flowers. Participants will experiment with these plant-based colors while assembling a personalized nature journal to take home.
The program is part of Vizcaya’s Family Garden series, which invites children and their caregivers to engage with native plants and local ecosystems through art-making, sensory exploration and ecological storytelling. The event is free with RSVP; capacity is limited and caregivers must accompany participating children.
