Caleb Around Town: Birth of Gospel Music
Jul 05, 2026
Starting: 4:00 PM
The Joseph Caleb Auditorium’s Caleb Around Town series presents a live gospel concert exploring the origins and evolution of the genre through music and storytelling. Taking place Sunday, July 5 at Bethel Apostolic Temple, the program is presented in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary.
The event features a lineup of South Florida gospel artists, including Grammy-nominated singer Johnny Sanders, Faith on Full Ensemble and vocalist Francine Ealey Murphy, with narration by Christal H. Walker-Collins. Together, the performers guide audiences through the development of gospel music in America, with a tribute to Thomas A. Dorsey, widely regarded as a foundational figure in the genre.
Blending live music with historical context, the concert offers an interpretive look at gospel’s evolution and influence, presenting both traditional elements and contemporary expressions in a communal setting.
