CCI Performance Art Series: David Pérez Karmadavis

Food, memory and migration come together in a participatory performance centered on the plantain and its place in Caribbean and Latin American traditions. The program takes place Thursday, August 27 on the East Portico at Pérez Art Museum Miami. Presented by PAMM’s Green Family Foundation Caribbean Cultural Institute as part of Beyond Representation, Edition 2, the evening combines cooking, storytelling, video and a communal meal.

Dominican artist David Pérez Karmadavis will collaborate with Verde chef Valeri Fuentes to prepare plantain-based dishes while exploring how recipes carry family histories, gestures and ancestral knowledge across borders. PAMM will also screen a video performance showing Karmadavis transporting a bunch of green plantains through the city, using the everyday object to reflect on migration and cultural memory. Guests are encouraged to bring a favorite family or cultural recipe for inclusion in a collective archive.

The program will be presented in Spanish with English translation. An extended happy hour runs from 5 to 9 p.m., accompanied by a vinyl DJ set from Jesús Rodríguez of Rum and Coke. Museum admission is free after 5 p.m. on Thursdays, and space for the outdoor performance is limited on a first-come, first-served basis.
