Jules Massenet’s French romantic opera brings the Cinderella story to life through lyrical music, fairy-tale atmosphere and performances by emerging opera artists. Cendrillon is presented Thursday, July 9 and Saturday, July 11, at 7 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El Sanctuary on Miami Beach as part of the Miami Beach Classical Music Festival.
Based on the familiar tale of Cinderella, or The Little Glass Slipper, the four-act opera blends romance, fantasy and comedy in a score that moves through varied musical styles. Massenet’s setting draws on sweeping love themes, delicate supernatural textures and ballet-like passages, creating a dreamlike version of the glass slipper story.
The production features singers from the festival’s Opera Institute, part of a broader summer program that brings young classical musicians to Miami Beach for training and public performance. Founded in 2013 by artistic director Michael Rossi, the Miami Beach Classical Music Festival presents opera, orchestral concerts, recitals, chamber music and masterclasses while offering audiences access to classical repertoire performed by rising artists.
