Conservation at Vizcaya: A Behind the Scenes Guided Tour
Jun 26, 2026
From: 11:30 AM to Noon
Recently conserved rooms inside Vizcaya’s Main House become the focus of a behind-the-scenes tour on historic preservation. Conservation at Vizcaya: A Behind the Scenes Guided Tour takes place Friday, June 26, at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. Led by Assistant Conservator Ella Andrews, the tour offers a closer look at spaces not yet reopened to the public following major preservation and capital improvement work.
The guided experience explores the FEMA-funded windows and doors project, including the conservation planning and technical work involved in preparing the Main House interiors for future public access. Participants will learn about paint analysis, restoration of interior windows, object deinstallation and reinstallation and the conservation treatments carried out while the rooms were closed.
The tour is designed for visitors interested in architecture, decorative arts, museum conservation and the long-term stewardship of historic properties. By focusing on the work behind the public galleries, the program offers insight into how Vizcaya preserves its interiors, collections and design features for future generations.
