Curator's Choice: Tea + Ritual
Apr 16, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
A curator-led conversation examines the cultural and design significance of tea rituals through objects and traditions from around the world. Taking place Thursday, April 16 during the April edition of the monthly Miami Beach Culture Crawl, the program is held at The Wolfsonian–FIU and brings together chief curator Silvia Barisione and JoJo’s Tea founder Michael Ortiz for a discussion on tea and coffee service design.
The conversation draws from works featured in Modern Design Across Borders, exploring how tea sets and related objects reflect craftsmanship, history and evolving cultural practices. The program considers how everyday routines like tea preparation can take on deeper meaning through design and ritual.
The evening begins with a free talk from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by a ticketed tea ceremony from 8 to 9 p.m. Presented as part of the Culture Crawl’s monthly series of after-hours programming, the event offers an opportunity to engage with museum exhibitions alongside live discussion and interactive experiences.
