Drag Poetry Slam II: KIN
This event has passed.
Experience a unique blend of performance art and environmental exploration at the Drag Poetry Slam II: KIN on Tuesday, April 23. Presented by O, Miami as part of the 2024 O, Miami Poetry Festival, this event is more than just a poetry slam - it's an immersive exploration of identity and community.
KIN, created by artist Harmony Honig (they/them), also known as Cara Dodge and Ded Cooter, utilizes the Miami Beach Botanical Garden itself as a stage, weaving a narrative that connects the vibrant flora and fauna of South Florida with themes of queer identity and chosen families. Through a combination of original poetry, botanical research and captivating drag performances, audiences will embark on a journey through the garden encountering live performances.
The performances draw connections between the distinctive traits of plants and the varied expressions of non-nuclear families. Expect powerful poetry, interwoven with the sights and sounds of the garden, that explores themes of healing, transformation and the creation of safe spaces. Stories of drag houses, mutual aid networks and the unifying power of community will be brought to life through the lens of nature itself.
