A father-daughter journey explores questions of identity, exile and belonging through a personal documentary set between the United States and Haiti. Directed by Rachelle Salnave, the documentary follows her attempt to reclaim Haitian citizenship with the help of her father, Edouard, who has been estranged from the country for decades following his family’s political exile. As they navigate the legal process tied to Haiti’s 2012 constitutional amendment allowing dual citizenship, the film becomes a broader exploration of generational perspectives and cultural identity.

Presented as a world premiere, Dual Citizen is part of the festival’s Made in MIA program, highlighting locally connected filmmakers and stories that engage with social and cultural themes.
