Earth Day at the Miami Design District
Apr 22, 2026
From: 10:00 AM to Noon
A guided walking tour explores how landscape design and public art shape a greener urban environment in the Miami Design District. Taking place Wednesday, April 22, the Earth Day program begins at Palm Court Plaza and continues through key outdoor spaces across the neighborhood. Led by experts from Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and Island Planning Corporation, the experience highlights the district’s transformation into a shaded, plant-rich setting.
Participants learn about the area’s evolving urban canopy, which includes more than 575 trees representing 55 species, along with a layered ecosystem of orchids and epiphytes integrated into the streetscape. The tour examines how these elements contribute to cooling, biodiversity and overall environmental resilience within a dense commercial district.
The program concludes at the Melin Atrium with a presentation of site-specific botanical sculptures by artist Joyce Billet. Attendees have the opportunity to hear directly from the artist about her creative process and collaboration with Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, adding an interpretive dimension to the district’s ecological design.
