Echoes of Heritage: A Sephardic Mother’s Song
May 17, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
Sephardic musical traditions and maternal heritage come together in a concert led by vocalist Susana Behar at the Deering Estate. The performance takes place Sunday, May 17, honoring Jewish American Heritage Month and Mother’s Day through a program of songs rooted in the Sephardic diaspora. Presented as part of Behar’s artist residency, the evening explores themes of memory, identity and cultural continuity.
An internationally recognized interpreter of Sephardic music, Behar has dedicated her career to preserving this repertoire, performing at venues including the Library of Congress and the Kennedy Center. A recipient of the Florida Individual Artist Fellowship in Folk and Traditional Arts, she brings a personal connection to the material, drawing from her Cuban Sephardic background and broader global influences.
The concert features selections in Ladino that reflect centuries of migration and storytelling, accompanied by guitarist and musical director Michel Gonzalez and a supporting ensemble. Tickets are available for purchase online through the Deering Estate.
