Engineering Coastal Resilience: Panel Discussion
Mar 21, 2026
From: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
A Miami Climate Week panel discussion at Vizcaya Village explores emerging strategies for protecting South Florida’s coastline and adapting to climate change. Engineering Coastal Resilience takes place Saturday, March 21 in the Historic Garage.
The program brings together leaders from environmental, cultural and public sectors to examine innovative approaches to climate resilience. Presenters will discuss projects that combine ecological restoration, infrastructure planning and historic preservation to address rising sea levels and coastal vulnerability.
Participants include representatives from REEFLINE, a cultural-ecological initiative developing hybrid reef structures that combine public art with marine habitat restoration; Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, which will share strategies for protecting its historic landscape through adaptive design and storm-surge mitigation; and District 2 Commissioner Damian Pardo, whose office is advancing nature-based coastal infrastructure projects such as the Morningside Shoreline initiative. The conversation will be moderated by City of Miami Chief Resilience Officer Sonia Brubaker.
Following the presentations, panelists will participate in an open discussion on creative approaches to strengthening coastal resilience in urban environments. Admission includes access to visit Vizcaya Museum and Gardens after the program. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the Vizcaya Village Café.
