Exhibition Reception: “Headwind” by Susanne Schirato
Nov 05, 2025
From: 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Blue-dyed windsocks ripple in the breeze on Vizcaya’s waterfront terrace in Headwind, a site-specific installation by Miami-based artist Susanne Schirato.
Presented as part of the Contemporary Arts Program, Exhibition Reception: “Headwind” by Susanne Schirato takes place Wednesday, November 5 as part of the Vizcaya Late series. The installation evokes the movement of a school of fish while reflecting on climate awareness, ecosystem fragility and the interplay between human activity and the natural world. Guests can enjoy light bites and refreshments during the evening, with opening remarks by curator Helena Gomez and the artist at 7 p.m.
Born in São Paulo, Schirato has developed a practice informed by subaquatic research and expeditions to sites including Antarctica, the Arctic and Brazil’s flooded caves and springs. Her work explores the intersection of art and science, drawing on experiences of extreme environments to reimagine the relationship between people and the planet. Headwind will remain on view through May 18, 2026.
