Five Senses of Guatemala
Apr 09, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
A multisensory cultural program explores Guatemalan traditions through music, art and cuisine at the Coral Gables Museum. Centered on shared heritage and community connection, the evening highlights the country’s artistic and ceremonial practices.
Taking place Thursday, April 9, Five Senses of Guatemala features live marimba music, visual projections and tastings of traditional foods and drinks. The program also draws from religious and cultural traditions associated with Holy Week, offering insight into one of Guatemala’s most significant annual observances.
At the core of the event is the exhibition Alfombra de Aserrín: A Sawdust Carpet from Antigua Guatemala to Coral Gables, which showcases the intricate, ephemeral carpets created for Holy Week processions in La Antigua Guatemala. Recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, these works reflect a collaborative tradition rooted in craftsmanship, symbolism and community participation.
The program also acknowledges the longstanding relationship between Coral Gables and La Antigua Guatemala, one of its sister cities, reinforcing cultural ties through shared artistic expression.
