Select Days
From: noon to 3:00 PM
A botanical art workshop at The Kampong in Coconut Grove explores sustainable design through the practice of Ikebana. Foraged Ikebana takes place on Saturdays, March 7, April 11 and May 2 from noon to 3 p.m.
Led by Janae of Plant Psyche, a botanical artist focused on ecology and regenerative design, the session begins with a guided walk through the garden. Participants will learn about mindful harvesting and may clip flowers, leaves and branches from designated plants that grow abundantly on the property. Clippers are provided.
The workshop continues with an introduction to the fundamentals of Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral arrangement. Using the foraged materials, each participant will create an arrangement to take home, along with a still life photograph of their work.
Guests may bring their own vessel and kenzan, no larger than 10 by 10 inches. A limited number of vessels and kenzans will be available for purchase on-site.
The Kampong, a historic botanical garden once home to plant explorer Dr. David Fairchild, serves as the setting for this hands-on class. Admission is $25 for NTBG members and $35 for non-members.
