Grand Opening of Disem’s New Solo Exhibition 'Who Authorized This?’

Miami graffiti artist DISEM examines authority, identity and the assumptions that shape everyday life in a new solo exhibition at the Museum of Graffiti in Wynwood. Who Authorized This? opens Saturday, September 19 during Latinx Heritage Month, bringing together graffiti, realism, street culture and fine art through the perspective of an artist who has worked in Miami’s graffiti scene for more than 25 years.

The exhibition takes its title from a question DISEM has repeatedly encountered throughout his career, using it as a point of departure for considering who defines social boundaries, how beliefs take hold and why certain systems or traditions go unquestioned. The work also reflects the contrasts of Miami and the artist’s experiences growing up in the city.

The project grew out of a concept DISEM pitched during the Museum of Graffiti’s 2025 Miami Art Week programming, earning an artist grant from Zig-Zag and promotional support from Outfront Media. During the opening, the first 150 guests will receive a complimentary Levi’s Trucker Jacket screen-printed with the artist’s work, while supplies last.
