Grand Opening of EYEJAMMIE at Art of Hip Hop
Mar 22, 2025
From: 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Discover iconic hip-hop photography from one of the genre's most important collections in a new exhibition. The Grand Opening of EYEJAMMIE at Art of Hip Hop presented by Monster Energy takes place on Saturday, March 22 from 7 to 10 p.m. at The Art of Hip Hop exhibition space in Wynwood.
This exhibition features select photographs from The Eyejammie Archive, a significant collection of hip-hop photography now housed at The Smithsonian. The archive originated from the Eyejammie Fine Arts Gallery in New York City, established in 2003 by Bill Adler, former publicity director at Def Jam Recordings, as a space dedicated exclusively to hip-hop photography.
Visitors will experience these historical images in an immersive and interactive environment, accompanied by music from DJ Cypha Sounds. The collection includes vintage portraits of influential figures such as Run-DMC, Flavor Flav, Cypress Hill, Slick Rick, Biggie Smalls, Snoop Dogg and Pitbull, along with reggae pioneers like Lee "Scratch" Perry who influenced hip-hop's development.
The photographs were created by renowned photographers including Harry Allen, Michael Benabib, Adrian Boot, Ricky Powell and Janette Beckman, among others. The Smithsonian acquired 400 prints by 59 different photographers from the Eyejammie collection in 2015.
This exhibition is made possible through Monster Energy and The Bunker, Miami's hurricane-proof automotive storage facility.
