Greater Miami Juneteenth Celebration
Jun 18, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Civic reflection, cultural expression and community gathering open Greater Miami’s regional Juneteenth observance at Miami City Hall. The Greater Miami Juneteenth Celebration takes place Thursday, June 18, bringing together the Cities of Miami, North Miami Beach and North Miami for an evening centered on freedom, resilience and African American contributions to American history. Presented by Hampton Art Lovers, the program is hosted by Christopher M. Norwood, founder and curator of Hampton Art Lovers at the Historic Ward Rooming House Gallery & Gardens.
The kickoff program includes remarks from City of Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins, City of North Miami Beach Mayor Michael Joseph and City of North Miami Mayor Alix Desulme. Elected officials, community leaders, artists, educators, clergy and residents from across Miami-Dade County are expected to take part in the gathering.
The celebration recognizes Juneteenth, which commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. A community reception follows the program.
