A major museum exhibition surveys the multidisciplinary work of filmmaker and artist Harmony Korine at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami. Harmony Korine: Perfect Nonsense is on view from April 15 through October 4, presenting more than 50 works that span film, painting, photography, collage and drawing. The exhibition traces Korine’s evolution as an image-maker whose practice moves fluidly between cinema, contemporary art and popular culture.
Emerging in the mid-1990s after writing the screenplay for Kids, Korine has developed a body of work that examines themes of youth, identity and American subcultures. His films, including Gummo, Spring Breakers and The Beach Bum, are known for their unconventional narratives and visual experimentation, while his visual art explores similar ideas through layered materials and shifting forms. Recent works incorporate new technologies, reflecting an ongoing interest in how images are produced and experienced.
Based in Miami since 2015, Korine’s recent work draws from the city’s visual landscape, influencing both his films and studio practice. Organized by ICA Miami, the exhibition offers a comprehensive look at his career and its continued impact on contemporary art and media.
