Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Starting: 7:25 PM
A rooftop Pride-season screening brings the cult rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch to Rooftop Cinema Club South Beach. The film screens Thursday, June 11, in Miami Beach, following the venue’s gay and lesbian singles night earlier in the evening. Directed by and starring John Cameron Mitchell, the 2001 film adapts the stage musical he created with composer and lyricist Stephen Trask.
The story follows Hedwig Robinson, a genderqueer East German rock singer who reinvents herself in the United States after leaving East Berlin and surviving a failed surgery, heartbreak and artistic betrayal. Told through glam rock performance, dark humor and confessional storytelling, the film explores identity, desire, self-mythology and the search for wholeness.
Since its release, Hedwig and the Angry Inch has become a queer cult classic, earning the Teddy Award at the Berlin International Film Festival, the Audience Award and Directing Award at Sundance and a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film in limited release. Seating options include Adirondack chairs, Adirondack chair-and-popcorn packages and loveseat seating with popcorn.
