Hiba Schahbaz: The Garden

Intimacy, myth and nature unfold in Hiba Schahbaz: The Garden, the first major retrospective of the Karachi-born, Brooklyn-based artist, presented by the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami.

Trained in the Indo-Persian miniature tradition, Schahbaz expands her practice beyond the page into large-scale oil paintings and cut-out installations that explore transformation, selfhood and care. The exhibition is framed through the concept of the jannat, or “Paradise Garden,” drawing inspiration from Persian and Mughal char-bagh design. Blending South Asian influences with the lushness of South Florida, Schahbaz creates an immersive environment where personal and cultural histories converge in richly layered works.

The exhibit, curated by Jasine Wahi, is on view November 5-March 16.
