Sep 24, 2025
From: 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM
Trace the rise of one of Miami-Dade’s most iconic cities during an afternoon of conversation and historical insight at HistoryMiami Museum. History Talks: Miami’s Boom Era Communities – Hialeah takes place Wednesday, September 24, as part of the museum’s ongoing lecture series led by Resident Historian Dr. Paul S. George.
In celebration of Hialeah’s 100th anniversary, this program explores the city’s evolution from its early days as the “Gateway to the Everglades” to its role as a hub of cultural and civic life. Highlights include the famed Hialeah Park racetrack—once a magnet for international figures such as Winston Churchill and Princess Grace—and the city’s historic welcome sign, which featured the likeness of Seminole tribal member Jack Tigertail. Dr. George will be joined by Adolfo Barandiaran, librarian with Hialeah Public Libraries, who will share reflections and materials from the city’s archival collections.
Presented in partnership with Hialeah Public Libraries and the City of Hialeah. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
