iMordecai Film Screening
This event has passed.
A Miami-set comedy about family, aging and rediscovery anchors a Jewish American Heritage Month film program at the Miami Beach JCC. The screening of iMordecai takes place Monday, May 11. Presented in partnership with the Miami Jewish Film Festival, the evening includes a special guest appearance by writer, producer and director Marvin Samel, followed by a post-film talkback.
Based on a true story, iMordecai stars Judd Hirsch as Mordecai Samels, a Holocaust survivor from Poland living in Miami with his wife, Fela, played by Carol Kane. Sean Astin portrays their son Marvin, a cigar maker balancing his own family responsibilities with care for his aging parents. When Mordecai’s old flip phone breaks, lessons on a new iPhone lead him into unexpected experiences that reconnect him with curiosity and joy.
The film has been described as both an uplifting comedy and a love letter to Miami, using humor and intergenerational connection to explore resilience, family and the possibilities of later life.
