Volunteers head to Oleta River State Park for a shoreline cleanup that combines local action with a global movement to protect oceans and waterways.
International Coastal Cleanup at Oleta takes place Saturday, September 20 as part of Miami-Dade County’s International Coastal Cleanup 2025. Hosted by Friends of Oleta River State Park and organized locally by VolunteerCleanup.org, the event marks the 40th anniversary of the International Coastal Cleanup, which unites millions of volunteers worldwide. Participants will remove debris from coastal, mangrove and beach areas, while recording findings through the Ocean Conservancy’s Clean Swell app to support ongoing research and solutions.
Volunteers should bring closed-toed shoes, water in a reusable bottle, sunscreen and sun protection such as a hat and sunglasses. Gloves, garbage bags and water refills will be provided. The group will meet at the White Ibis Pavilion near Parking Lot 1, where free parking is available. Waivers are required to participate, with community service hours offered for volunteers.
This initiative is part of a global effort that has mobilized more than 18 million people across 150 countries in the fight against marine debris.
