International Coastal Cleanup: Virginia Key Dog Beach

Volunteers will collect and document marine debris along the shoreline at Virginia Key Dog Beach/Hobie Beach as part of the 41st International Coastal Cleanup. Taking place Saturday, September 19, the cleanup is led by the Consortium for a Healthier Miami-Dade and forms part of a countywide effort organized by VolunteerCleanup.org and Clean Miami-Dade.

Participants will remove litter while using Ocean Conservancy’s CleanSwell app to record what they find, contributing data to a global marine debris database. The Virginia Key cleanup is one of more than 65 sites across Miami-Dade County participating in the annual international initiative.

Advance registration is required, with garbage bags, gloves and community service hours provided. Volunteers should bring water in a reusable bottle and dress for outdoor conditions. Parking along the shoreline is limited, with overflow parking available across Rickenbacker Causeway at MAST Academy. Volunteers under 18 attending without a parent or guardian must bring a signed consent form.
