International Jazz Month Concert ft. Lenard Rutledge
Apr 03, 2026
Starting: 7:30 PM
An evening of classic jazz vocals anchors the celebration of International Jazz Month at the Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater, featuring Miami native Lenard Rutledge.
Presented by The Sunshine Jazz Organization, the concert spotlights Rutledge’s rich, soulful baritone, often compared to the legendary Lou Rawls for its blend of polished elegance and gospel-rooted intensity. Born and raised in Miami, Rutledge began his musical path as a percussionist before emerging as a vocalist in the late 1990s. His career gained national attention during a seven-year tenure as featured singer with the Melton Mustafa Orchestra, followed by long-running performances at the Van Dyke Café that solidified his presence in South Florida’s jazz scene.
Rutledge has shared the stage with acclaimed artists including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Wycliffe Gordon, Kirk Whalum, Marion Meadows, Kenny Drew Jr. and the late George Duke. His performances draw equally from jazz tradition and the emotional resonance of his church choir roots, creating a sound that feels both timeless and deeply personal.
The concert takes place Friday, April 3 in Historic Overtown. General admission tickets are $35, with $45 VIP seating available.
