JIJI Plays Rodrigo’s Guitar Concerto

Guitarist JIJI performs Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez in a pre-season program filled with Spanish color, sweeping orchestral passages and vivid dance rhythms. The concert takes place Saturday, September 19 at New World Center in Miami Beach. Marcelo Lehninger conducts the New World Symphony, offering audiences an early opportunity to hear the orchestra’s newest Fellows.
Known for her command of both acoustic and electric guitar, JIJI performs repertoire ranging from classical works to contemporary commissions and improvisation. Rodrigo’s landmark concerto places the guitar at the center of an orchestral soundscape inspired by the gardens of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez.
The program also includes the overture to Antônio Carlos Gomes’ Il Guarany, Richard Strauss’ Don Juan and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol. Admission is pay what you wish.
