Kate Liu: Between Dance and Dream

Pianist Kate Liu opens the Frost Chopin Academy & Festival with a recital centered on Romantic piano repertoire and Chopin’s expressive range. The concert takes place Sunday, June 14 at 4 p.m. at Gusman Concert Hall, launching a week of performances, study and musical exchange at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. Liu came to international attention after winning the Bronze Medal and Audience Prize at the 17th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw.
A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School, Liu is recognized for performances that combine clarity, nuance and emotional depth. Her opening recital includes Chopin’s Mazurkas, op. 50 and Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, op. 35, alongside Schumann’s Arabeske, op. 18 and Brahms’ Piano Sonata No. 1 in C major, op. 1.
The Frost Chopin Academy & Festival continues June 14-21 with programming dedicated to Chopin performance and interpretation. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $20 for seniors, with free admission for students and youth under 18.
