A new exhibition at HistoryMiami Museum traces the roots of Caribbean Carnival through the lens of J’ouvert, a tradition born from emancipation and cultural resistance. Long Live J’ouvert: Exhibition Opening launches with an evening celebration that highlights the sound, spirit and symbolism of this pre-dawn ritual.
Presented by JouvayFest Collective in partnership with TheSmartGroup Corp, City Lore and HistoryMiami Museum, the event includes an exhibition tour, live music, traditional characters, storytelling, and festive food and drink. The Long Live J’ouvert exhibition will remain on view through October 19, offering a deeper look into J’ouvert’s evolution through stick fighting, steelpan rhythms, street processions and satirical masquerade.
The opening takes place Friday, August 1 from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. at HistoryMiami Museum.
