Love Jones at Rooftop Cinema Club

A late-night rooftop screening revisits a defining love story of Black cinema, where poetry, music and intimacy shape a portrait of modern romance. The screening takes place Thursday, February 19 at Rooftop Cinema Club on Miami Beach as part of the venue’s Juneteenth programming.

Written and directed by Theodore Witcher, Love Jones centers on Darius Lovehall, a Chicago poet, and Nina Mosley, a rising photographer, whose relationship unfolds through conversations about art, vulnerability, ambition and desire. Released in 1997, the film became a cultural touchstone for its nuanced depiction of creative life, its rejection of romantic clichés, and its quietly radical portrayal of tenderness, emotional complexity and intellectual connection. Anchored by performances from Larenz Tate and Nia Long, Love Jones helped define the aesthetic of late-’90s Black romance, blending spoken word, neo-soul and jazz into its narrative rhythm.

Guests watch from Rooftop Cinema Club’s open-air setting, with seating options that include individual Adirondack chairs or shared loveseats designed for relaxed viewing. Select ticket packages include popcorn, and all seating faces the outdoor screen, creating an intimate, after-hours cinema experience set against the Miami Beach night sky.
