A night of contemporary jazz brings together virtuosic musicianship, deep groove, and wide-ranging musical influences as the Melton Mustafa Jr. Quartet takes the stage at The Moss Center. Known for blending jazz with blues, funk, rock, pop and soul, the quartet delivers a dynamic performance style that balances classic repertoire with modern flair.
Led by three-time GRAMMY®-nominated saxophonist Melton Mustafa Jr., the program draws inspiration from an eclectic range of artists including Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, John Lennon and Bruno Mars. Mustafa Jr.’s performances are marked by expressive improvisation, commanding stage presence and an infectious sense of rhythm that invites audiences to listen closely, move freely and engage fully with the music.
Based in Miami, Mustafa Jr. is a respected performer, educator and producer whose career spans international touring, festival appearances, and community-centered music initiatives. He has performed with artists such as Lalah Hathaway and Wycliffe Gordon, toured with the Ray Charles Band, and appeared at major events including Jazz in the Gardens. Alongside his performance career, he is a longtime music educator, a professor at Florida Memorial University and the founder of the Melton Mustafa Jazz Festival.
