Your Guide to the Best Parties of Miami Music Week

The week surrounding Ultra Music Festival and Winter Music Conference every March has become known as Miami Music Week because the entire city gets on board to throw the best parties of the year with headlining DJs at pools and nightclubs across the city. Held from March 16-22, 2020, it’s almost impossible to avoid ending up at a Miami Music Week party. You’ll find the same big name headliners from Ultra—think, Afrojack, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Gallantis and many more—spinning in intimate venues packed with fans. With parties day and night at multiple venues throughout Miami, it’s never too early to start planning your calendar of must-see events.

Ultra Music Festival

It all started with Ultra Music Festival, which was first held on Miami Beach in 1999. After two decades in Downtown Miami’s Bayfront Park, the three-day music festival dedicated to electronic dance music jumped locations to the Historic Virginia Key Beach and Miami Marine Stadium off the Rickenbacker Causeway last year.

This year, Ultra is back in Bayfront for a festival that promises to be bigger and better than ever! Held from March 20-22, 2020, the festival features seven stages of pulsating electronic music, as well as live performances by acts like Flume, Gesaffelstein, Major Lazer and Zedd.

The first phase of the lineup and headliners have already been announced and include regulars like Afrojack, Armin Van Buren, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Marshmello, Martin Garrix and Richie Hawtin. With unbelievable light shows, special effects and pyrotechnics, Ultra is an all-encompassing, three-day dance party showcasing major international DJs and up-and-coming underground artists. It’s a once in a lifetime experience for those who love to party and dance.

Winter Music Conference

Miami Music Week also encapsulates Winter Music Conference, an industry trade show dedicated to music, technology, culture and education that actually predates Ultra. Held from March 16-19, 2020 in the Faena District, WMC is celebrating its 35th anniversary and events include panel discussions, networking and listening events, as well as parties.

Miami Music Week Party Spots

The legendary Nikki Beach still dominates in South Beach’s South of Fifth (SoFi) neighborhood. With oceanfront parties, daybeds and cabanas fueled by bottle service and gourmet cuisine, Nikki Beach promises a stellar lineup throughout Miami Music Week.

The Surfcomber is a perennial hotspot for Miami Music Week pool parties. With a massive oceanfront pool deck and yard, they set up a stage for DJs to spin all weekend long. The Delano is another go-to for pool parties at Delano Beach Club. And the National Hotel and W Miami are also hotspots.

Of course, when it comes to the ultimate Miami nightlife experience, all roads lead to LIV. The megaclub is famous for its high-octane parties fueled by the best DJs in the industry and a loyal celebrity following. From Diplo to Kaskade and Ja Rule to Lil Wayne, the lineup at LIV is always stellar. Sister club Story is also worthy of a visit with a similar scene, yet a more inclusive vibe. It showcases both headliners and underground talent from everyone including Gianluca Vacchi to Steve Aoki.

The RC Cola Plant in Wynwood and the Fillmore Miami Beach also host performances, while Club Space in Downtown Miami throws parties that literally go until after sunrise.

Tips for Staying Safe

It’s important to party responsibly during Miami Music Week and to obey local, state and federal laws. Pace yourself, hydrate and take a night off if you need to. The legal drinking age is 21 and open containers are not allowed in public places, including the beach. Be mindful of these laws and your own limitations and you’re guaranteed to have a great time during Miami Music Week.
